According to reports, Bosch , the world's largest automotive technology supplier, announced on January 25, 2016 that it has developed an intelligent accelerator pedal that can provide haptic feedback. When the car accelerates too quickly, the smart throttle can generate vibration to alert the driver.

In addition, Bosch also said that this new result can help drivers reduce fuel consumption by approximately 7% through a reminder of the driver’s slowdown.

The research and development of this achievement also reveals a well-known secret in the automotive world: many new technologies in the revolution of the driverless automobile come from technology suppliers, not manufacturers. “The Bosch Smart Throttle not only helps drivers save fuel, but also warns drivers to prevent potential dangers,” said Stefan Seiberth, president of the Bosch Gas Engine Division, in a statement.

When the car is driving on a curving road, the smart throttle will remind the driver to slow down, provided that the car is equipped with a navigation system and a camera that can recognize road signs. When the vehicle is speeding, the pedal will vibrate and push gently when the one-way road is in the wrong direction, and when it is caught in congestion and other dangerous situations, the driver is warned.

“Some other suppliers have provided fuel consumption feedback pedals, but there is no one pedal that can warn of speed problems and driving risks,” Bosch spokesperson Tim Wieland said.
