Recently, Wessels Reederei has signed a contract with Mann Diesel & Turbo at the European Port Ship Technology Exhibition to convert the 8L48/60B main engine of the former 1000teu container ship "Wes Amelie" into a dual fuel operation, which will become this The first ship in the class to carry out LNG propulsion modification.

It is reported that the modified "Wes Amelie" will use LNG as fuel, sulfur oxide emissions will be reduced by more than 99%, nitrogen oxide emissions will be reduced by about 90%, and carbon dioxide emissions will be reduced by 20%.
The “Wes Amelie†was launched in 2011 and there are currently 23 sister ships in operation, 16 of which are identical in structure, meaning that later modifications will be easier. The ship's engine modifications will be carried out in the fourth quarter of 2016 and will be fully operational in early December 2016.
