Finnish propulsion specialist Steerprop has introduced a new generation of catheter azimuth thrusters and upgraded its design to provide higher technical performance.
     The new design will use a lighter construction and cast housing and increased ruggedness. The propeller uses a slender body, a smaller hub ratio and a high-performance HJ4 nozzle to increase the bollard pull while optimizing nozzle position, improved hydrodynamic performance and better fuel economy. The anode is also upgraded to a cast shape that does not affect the flow of water.
     The new thruster also features a new control system (product library supply) with new features including historical data collection capabilities. This new generation of propellers can provide both electric drive control for diesel engines (purchased from the product library), electric motors (purchased from the product library) or hybrid drive systems, as well as hydraulic drive control. A shallow draft version of the propeller designed specifically for confined spaces on board is also available.
     Steerprop's propellers are flexible to install and overhaul for up to 15 years or more, helping to further extend optional condition monitoring (product library purchase).
