According to Tradewind, host manufacturer Rolls-Royce is actively evaluating the existing cargo tank systems on the market to determine which is best for small LNG or refueling vessels. Due to a large number of inquiries about the refueling vessel, Rolls-Royce has conducted research on the cargo hold system for small LNG vessels.
The study focused on the development of a 7,500-cubic-meter ship and will analyze and compare six different types of cargo tank technology. These include three Type C cargo bays (cylindrical, double-eared and spherical), as well as Type A, B and film cargo holds.
According to Oskar Levander, vice president of marine innovation engineering at Rolls-Royce, they plan to conduct investment and operating cost analysis for each type of cargo tank for each type of cargo.
In addition, a range of other factors such as insulation effects will also be included in the assessment. Levander expects that the project will not be completed until after the summer, when the research results will be announced.
He explained that the reason for this research was to respond to customer inquiries, and many people wanted to know which cargo tank system is best for small LNG ships.
