The United States EPA intends to deploy 2,000 tons of methyl bromide for emergency use in 2011 and conduct public comments on quotas. Public comment will end on May 31. This quota is based on the Montreal Protocol, which is about 7.8% of the US methyl bromide usage in 1991.

Methyl bromide has been largely eliminated in developed countries. Of the 2,000 tons used in this year's quota, 482.333 tons came from stock before phase out, and the remaining 1,500 tons were new production and imports. Of all quotas, 92% will be used before cultivation and the rest will be used after harvest.

In January 2011, the stock of methyl bromide in the United States was approximately 1800 tons, and the inventory in the same period last year reached 3,000 tons. EPA said it will pay close attention to inventory and deployment.
