According to the operator's request, the pump was taken to Rankenthal and KSB was tested for hydraulics, vibration and noise at the local experimental site. Based on the measurement results and the existing design documents, the pump manufacturer's hydraulic system and acoustics experts designed a new noise damper and improved the impeller of the pump.
Using the "rapid prototyping" technology, the new noise damper was completed in eight weeks and installed in a fully inspected pump. The trial run in Frankenthal showed a solid sound reduction of up to 20 decibels. Beyond the expected reduction of 15 decibels.
With the newly developed noise damper, KSB Germany has successfully reduced the noise of large pumps produced in Germany 21 years ago by 20 decibels. Prior to this, the noise pollution of the pump has been affecting people living nearby.
